Unique device identification

Complete UDI implementation, from coding to regulatory submission.

HSC structures your portfolio's entire UDI cycle: coding strategy, labelling, data validation and submission to ANVISA, the FDA and the European Union.

UDI has moved from a trend to a requirement

The staggered deadlines under RDC 591/2021 are already in force by risk class, and the FDA and European Union have required UDI for years. Without compliance, the product cannot circulate.

ANVISA

RDC 591/2021

  • Staggered deadlines by risk class
  • Data in the ANVISA system
DeadlineThe current timetable for each class is confirmed during the initial assessment.

United States

21 CFR Part 830

  • Mandatory submission to GUDID
  • Established requirement across all classes
DeadlineThe requirement is already in force across all classes.

European Union

MDR 2017/745

  • Basic UDI-DI
  • EUDAMED registration
DeadlineStaggered obligations by class under the MDR.

One identifier, two components

Medical device label with DataMatrix, GS1 barcode and UDI-DI (GTIN) and UDI-PI data (expiry date and batch)
On the label, the UDI-DI appears in the GTIN (01) and the UDI-PI in production data, such as expiry date (17) and batch (10).
UDI-DI

Device identifier

Fixed component associated with the product model and version. It does not change between batches.

UDI-PI

Production identifier

Variable component: batch, serial number, expiry date and date of manufacture.

Identifiers are assigned by accredited issuing agencies such as GS1, HIBCC and ICCBBA. Selecting an agency forms part of the coding strategy. For the US market, see our FDA regulatory services.
